Drama Department
Drama is a highly popular subject at Manor College of Technology with a large proportion of KS4 students choosing it for GCSE. We regularly achieve over 90% A*-C of pupils who take the complete exam.
Our drama studio is a converted youth club with an octagonal sunken floor for working and performing on with a lighting rig and portable desk and sound system. We also have within the studio, a classroom area, resource area, costume cupboard and DVD viewing area. We teach, rehearse and, on occasions, perform in the studio.
The department produces three productions each year: a full College musical in December, the National Theatre Connections play in March and a Y10 play in July. We enjoy creating a diverse range of plays and past productions have included Les Miserables, The Crucible, Road, Fame, Guys & Dolls, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe amongst many others.
Other extra curricular projects are run throughout the year for KS3 and KS4 pupils and involve many outside agencies. Gifted and Talented projects are run for pupils from both Key Stages both for drama and collaboratively with other departments.
KS3
All pupils at KS3 are taught drama once each week with key skills such as speaking and listening playing an important role. Pupils study topics such as Anne Frank, The plague in Eyam, Shakespeare, and Comedy throughout their time in KS3 with all topics linking to social skills.
Each pupil is taught within a framework suitable for themselves with differentiation taking place through enabling different students to participate in the same activity.
Each scheme is written to include TEEP making sure that there is a Connection phase in each lesson and that throughout the scheme Demonstration, Activation and Consolidation activities take place regularly.

KS4
At KS4 students follow the GCSE Edexcel drama syllabus. Pupils are given the opportunity over the two year course to explore and develop new drama techniques and to create fully devised pieces as well as rehearsing scripted plays both in lesson time and as extra curricula activities.
The course is made up of three units. The first two units explore a variety of texts and stimuli as well as a full play. The third is a performance devised by the students over a period of around 12 weeks.
Pupils also complete practice units in both Papers in Y10 to allow them to understand the way the units are marked.
