FAME The Musical
December 2010
On the 4th December over 100 pupils and staff found themselves in school on a Sunday ready for the technical rehearsal of Fame. It was the first time that the whole cast, directors, band and tech team were together to rehearse the college production. As ever, there were a few technical difficulties but overall the rehearsal went well and everyone felt prepared for the next day.
On Monday 5th December, year 6 pupils from our partner primary schools joined us as an audience for our first performance and final dress run. They were a fantastic audience and the cast really rose to the occasion, producing a great performance for them. In the afternoon we were able to run the finale and change spacings and run any sections we thought needed a little more polish. The press came to take photos for us and suddenly it was 3.15 and time for the cast to go home for a brief rest before returning for the show.
The production ran for four evenings and each performance was excellent. The cast worked together extremely well and were supportive of each other from the start of the warm up (where it has to be said, Holly’s piggies and bunnies exercise had to be seen to be believed!) through to the finale with the amount of energy that was on display.
Each evening, the audience picked out different cast members as being extra special, from leading roles, to chorus members and it was said to be the ‘best ever’ show (but someone always says this!). The final evening’s performance gained a standing ovation from the audience and then the cast stayed on stage for the ‘thank you’s’ from Mrs Malcolm.
However, once Mrs Malcolm had spoken the Year 11’s took over and each of them spoke to say thank you to the staff involved in producing the show, speaking about how much they enjoyed the rehearsals, the five years of being involved in the performing arts and individual memories of their time.
There was hardly a dry eye in the house and we, as staff, are very proud of our wonderful Y11’s and the rest of the cast. Each member of staff received a card signed by the cast which will be treasured.
