Manor College of Technology Uniform
Manor College pupils are renowned for their smart appearance and the College’s uniform makes an important statement about our distinctive identity, values and ethos.
In 2004 Manor became the first school in Hartlepool to reintroduce blazers and this decision has attracted numerous compliments. Compulsory uniform ensures that children (and their parents) do not feel under pressure to compete regarding appearance.
At Manor all of the children conform to strict dress codes and pupils’ individuality is expressed through their work and not through their appearance.
Consequently, it is impossible to identify separate socio-economic groups at Manor – all of the children dress identically and it is not possible to differentiate children according to appearance. This is an integral part of Manor’s ethos.
Full uniform is also essential during PE lessons where the wearing of replica football tops and designer kit is not allowed. Jewellery is not permitted at Manor and body piercing is forbidden.
Jewellery will be confiscated and placed in a secure place until parents can collect it. Body piercing (e.g. facial studs, tongue studs) is not allowed and pupils will be expected to remove any item of this type of jewellery. In certain circumstances, pupils who refuse to comply with this request will be sent home.
There are no formal rules about hair styles but outrageous colours or extreme styles (Mohicans, skin heads, patterns etc.) will not be tolerated. Make up is not permitted at Manor and Chewing gum is banned from the College's premises.
