Physical Education Department
The objectives of the Physical Education Department are:
- To promote physical activity and encourage enjoyment and a sense of achievement at all levels.
- To develop all pupils skills at both social and interpersonal levels.To promote team work through working with others.
- To develop and encourage good levels of health and fitness.
- To ensure pupils have the knowledge, skills and confidence in all areas of sport and encourage pupils to participate in extra-curricular activities.
Facilities
The College has a variety of excellent facilities catering for the majority of sports. Our facilities include an indoor Swimming Pool, 2 Gymnasiums, 1 Sports-Hall, Rugby and Football Pitches, All Weather Netball Courts and 4 All Weather Tennis Courts.
The College is classed as a Football Foundation Development School and as a result of this has a top class changing facility and Centre of Excellence Standard Football Pitches that are maintained on a regular basis.
Key Stage 3
The PE department include activities that cover the following range of content.
- outwitting opponents, as in games activities.
- accurate replication of actions, phrases and sequences, as in gymnastic activities.
- exploring and communicating ideas, concepts and emotions, as in dance activities.
- performing at maximum levels in relation to speed, height, distance, strength or accuracy, as in athletic activities.
- identifying and solving problems to overcome challenges of an adventurous nature, as in life saving and personal survival in swimming and outdoor activities.
- exercising safely and effectively to improve health and wellbeing, as in fitness and health activities.
This content is included throughout the following activities.
Girls – Gymnastics (including Trampoline), Swimming, Dance, Netball, Fitness, Basketball, Football, Badminton, Tennis, Rounders, and Athletics.
Boys – Gymnastics (including Trampoline), Swimming, Fitness, Basketball, Football, Rugby Badminton, Tennis, Softball, Cricket and Athletics.
Key Stage 4 Core PE
Pupils are encouraged to improve their strengths and given opportunities to focus on these through a wide range of activities. Including Trampoline, Swimming, Water Polo, Fitness, Basketball, Football, Rugby Badminton, Tennis, Softball and Rounders, Netball and Dance.Examination Courses
GCSE PE
The college delivers GCSE PE through the OCR examination board which has introduced a new specification from September 2009.
B-Tec
Pupils study B-Tec First Certificate in sport that is the equivelent of 2 GCSE’s. The B-Tec 1st diploma (4 GCSE’s) is an option for pupils performing well in this area.
Both qualifications have a varied and interesting syllabus that are delivered through a range of Practical and Theoretical Activities.
Extra Curricular
The college provides a wide range of Extra-Curricular opportunities for all students. We aim to provide opportunities for students to develop existing talents and also to make new friends, activities and to have fun. The available sports clubs run throughout the year.
The college is enjoying an incredibly successful period in a wide range of sports. Our teams take part in competitions at district, regional and national level
