Boom Room

In 2010 Manor College invested c. £50,000 in installing a high-tech Music Studio and the College’s ‘Sound Pod’ is proving to be a fantastic asset not simply for the pupils but for the wider Community.

The ‘Sound Pod’ is unique in UK Schools and features nine music stations all of which are monitored centrally by our recently appointed expert Music teacher, Mr Andy Carroll.

The Sound Pod can accommodate nine ‘bands’ and 36 children can play simultaneously with their work being monitored by their teacher. The new Sound Pod is also a very well equipped recording studio.

Each band consists of a bass guitarist, percussionist, lead guitarist and keyboard player and it is possible for individual musicians to be monitored and assessed by their teachers.

The Sound Pod is attracting considerable National and International Interest and has been made available free of charge to Manor’s Partner Primary Schools (Fens, Greatham, Golden Flatts, Kingsley, Owton Manor, Grange and Rossmere).

Music provision is flourishing at Manor and the appointment of Andy Carroll (guitar, percussion, brass and voice) has complemented what is already an outstanding Department led by Mrs Christine Davison (of Hartlepool Stage Society fame – keyboards, voice, woodwind), Mrs Nerys Blanckley (strings, voice, keyboards), Mr Clive Warham (brass, keyboards) and Miss Ellie Hopwood (Director of Performing Arts –woodwind, keyboards, voice).

The ‘Sound Pod’ is unique in UK Schools and features nine music stations all of which are monitored centrally by our recently appointed expert Music teacher, Mr Andy Carroll.

The College believes in investing in Music and the Performing Arts and produces annually several major Concerts and Theatre Productions. The Sound Pod and the ICT rich specialist facilities and practice rooms create the perfect environment in which to teach children music.

The Sound Pod will be opened officially this term and the College has invited a high profile celebrity from the Performing Arts Industry to conduct proceedings. These are exciting times for young musicians in Southern Hartlepool.
