Parent Partnership

Parent Partnership 2011

Manor College Parent Partnership continues to be of great value to parents of pupils in Manor College and our Partner Primary schools.

The group has been running for nine years and continues to be a success.

The initiative began because we felt there was a need for more provision for parents to access information about school and their children.

BUT more importantly more provision FOR PARENTS

Why the initiative began

9 Years ago funding became available to encourage more parents to have a more active role in their child’s education.

We focused on pupils with SEN initially and invited parents to meetings to discuss their children and any issues.

What did we do?

  • Rented premises away from school.

  • Sent letters out to Y7 and Y8 parents of pupils with SEN.

  • Invited parents to come and chat about any concerns they may have in a relaxed atmosphere.

  • Gave the opportunity for parent/carer to work together, with their child, and show how to use resources at home.

What happend next?

I asked parents if they would like to meet up with other parents to discuss issues about the complexities of bringing up children!

  • A group was formed.

  • Funding sought.

  • Activities organised

Does it work?

Parents enjoy the opportunity to have input in their childs’ education, knowing how rewarding it can be to help their child at home .

Packs can be given to parents to help with handwriting and literacy etc.

Last year a group of 15 parents, of Manor pupils and our Partner Primary Schools attended the group on a regular basis and some parents dropped in occasionally when they felt the need.

How can we help?

The group offers an opportunity for parents to discuss issues about their children and their education and any problems that may be encountered.

You may make an appointment to come and see me for a one to one meeting with or without your child or you may attend a group session at the end of each half term.

What do we have to offer?

Some of the activities we have done in the past could be organised for the last session of each half term.

Computer Skills Yoga
Parent/Child Sessions Crystal Healing
Health and Fitness Nutrition
Beauty Therapy Hair and Beauty
Tai Chi College visits

What next?

Let me know if you would like to make an appointment to see me alone or with your child.

If there is an activity you would like me to organise for our last session of each half term please let me know.

Make sure I have your name and address on my list so that I may send out a reminder of the activity planned.
