Enterprise
What is Enterprise?
Enterprise Education encourages students to have a ‘Can Do’ attitude and it gives them the chance to get a taste of adult life by running their own business. Opportunities provided on this course can lead to increased self esteem, greater confidence and better preparation for the world of work.
Course Details
If you choose to follow this course your group will be registered NCFE and the “Young Enterprise Company Programme”. This programme offers students the opportunity to set up and run their own real company, with the support and guidance of a volunteer adviser from business.
Students elect a board of directors from amongst their peers, raise share capital, market and finance a real product or service of their own choice and sell it to the public.
Through participating in the Company Programme, students develop their enterprise knowledge and understanding, skills and attributes in a business context.
They learn by doing, coping with a changing and evolving business, developing essential skills such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, managing risk, creativity, innovation and leadership.
Assessment
The Enterprise qualification is awarded by NCFE at Level 2 and is equivalent to 1 GCSE. The qualification is achieved by completing three units of coursework:
- Unit 1: Understand and explore enterprise capabilities.
- Unit 2: Plan and carry out an enterprising project.
- Unit 3: Evaluation of enterprise project and self-development.
Students will also be expected to take part in Enterprise activities and take a leading role planning and running Enterprise Fayres.
Progression Routes
Following completion of the Young Enterprise company programme, successful candidates would be able to enter initial employment, at a junior level, in such areas as administration assistant or telesales operations.
