Literacy Events
Literacy events at Manor College of Technology:-
Literacy Leaders
At the moment thirty Year 11 students act as Literacy Leaders towards students in Year 7, 8 and 9. Once a week, during a morning registration the Leaders meet up with their mentee and provide twenty minutes of one to one literacy support. The Literacy Leaders have acted as inspirational role models and are identifiable around College by their ‘Literacy Leader’ badge.
Say It Out Loud
Manor’s first ever speaking competition was launched in September 2011 and the College boasted a magnificent range of individual speakers who thrilled and entertained their audience.
The speakers have to write their own two minute speech, about a topic that they felt strongly about! The Key Stage Three winners were: Josh Wright, Elle Jackson and Daniel Charlton and went on to represent the school in the ‘Youth Speaks’ competition.
The Key Stage Four winners were: Paige Palliser and Jacob Wright. We can’t wait for next year’s event!
Spelling Bee
Manor College launched its second annual Spelling Bee for Year 7. Last year’s winners – Erin Hanson, Elle Jackson, Caitlin Musgrove and Paris Kennedy – will be helping Miss Clark coordinate and deliver the Bee.
The Year 7 winners will go on to represent the College in ‘The Times Spelling Bee’ in March.
Inter-School Reading Group
There are twelve very keen readers who volunteered to join the School Reading Group. Each reader reads a chosen novel each term and meets with the rest of their group to discuss the book further.
Manor Chronicle
If you are interested in becoming a budding reporter you should be one of Mrs Gray’s ‘roving reporters’ for the school’s annual newspaper!
