Literacy across the Curriculum
"Every teacher is a teacher of English because every teacher is a teacher in English.”
Geoff Barton.
In its most simple term literacy is reading, writing, speaking and listening. These are necessary skills for all students at Manor College in every subject area but also in every walk of life, once they leave College.
As part of Manor College’s Raising Achievement agenda there is now a Literacy Policy and KS3 students (Years 7-9) now receive a weekly literacy lesson which aims to reinforce basic skills.
Every term is dedicated to a particular strand of literacy and each week there is a particular focus:
- Term 1: Speaking and Listening
- Term 2: Reading
- Term 3: Writing
- Term 4: Speaking and Listening
- Term 5: Reading
- Term 6: Writing
Please find attached the weekly literacy objectives for term 4:
Week Commencing S&L AF: Weekly Objective:
9th Jan AF1 To plan and create a purposeful talk, using effective vocabulary.
16th Jan AF1 To deliver and assess purposeful talk.
23rd Jan AF2 To identify features of group discussion.
To participate in a group discussion and provide mirrored feedback.
30th Jan AF3 To develop a character through role play.
6th Feb AF4 To compare and explain different types of talk.
Please click on the links at the side of the page, for more information about each literacy strand and for tips and hints on how to support your child with literacy.
The lessons that your child will receive on a termly basis will be uploaded into the relevant folder, each term. Please take the time to look at the lesson and ask your child to take you through the lesson step by step.
