Back to the 80's

December 2007

‘Back to the 80’s’ was performed at Manor College for four nights in December 2007.  Eighty five students made up the cast for a fantastically uplifting and fun production.  The songs came from the 1980’s which pleased the staff and parents and introduced the Y7’s-Y11’s to music such as ‘Let’s hear it for the boy’, ‘Footloose’, ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’ and ‘Kids in America’.

The plot was simple – a boy (Corey, played by Corey Jai Healey) likes a girl (Tiffany, played by Abbie Rowbotham), she doesn’t realise and goes out with one of the football stars (Michael, played by James Pattison) until he shows his true colours and she comes to her senses and goes out with Corey.

The whole show is narrated by an older version of Corey (played by Ross Crump) and there are plenty of funny moments and energetic dance routines.  One particularly memorable scene involves a spoof of Star Wars with Corey as Hans Solo, fighting Michael, as Darth Vader for the love of Tiffany (Princess Leia).

Other characters include Tiffany’s best friend, Cyndi and Feargal, an intelligent young man who keeps trying to predict the future of technology although the other kids think that he and his friend Bill are geeks and should take their new fangled Compact Discs and mobile telephones which looks like a large housebrick and throw them away.

The musical was bright, colourful and fun – the cast had a fantastic time performing it and the audience went away singing all the way home.
