Religious Education Department
Religious Education is concerned with the study of religions, learning about religions (knowledge and understanding) and learning from religions (evaluation).
As part of the curriculum of Manor College, Religious Education aims to promote the social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of students. It aims to develop key skills and attitudes which are in-line with the aims of the National Curriculum and those of the school.
RE also makes a positive contribution to all five aspects of Every Child Matters.
KS3
RE is taught as a discreet subject at Key Stage 3 with an allocation of 1 hour per week (equal to 5% of the curriculum). It is taught continuously throughout the Key Stage in blocks of 6-7 weeks. Where possible, students are taught by a specialist member of staff.
KS4
All students will follow the AQA GCSE RE Short Course syllabus which links to the PSHE, Citizenship and Economic Well-being aspects of the curriculum. This will form the statutory component of RE at key Stage 4. There will be no external GCSE examination for this subject.
GCSE
Edexcel GCSE RE Full Course Religion & Life/Religion & Society is offered as an option to Year 9 students.
Students are assessed by coursework (20%) and final written examination (80%) at the end of Year11.
