County X Country Representatives 2010/11
Emma, Jason and Jade went on to represent the County in Durham back in January. All three pupils competed at their best with one individual Emma Cassell coming 2nd overall.
This is a great achievement for the three athletes. Emma and Jason will now go on to the National finals in Nottingham on 19th March 2011.
Good luck to both athletes.
Manor Cross Country Teams
The girls went off to Summerhill to represent the school in the Inter Schools Cross Country Championships. The teams consisted of year 7 in one group and a combined year 8 and 9 team.
The girls had to run in some terrible weather but did not give up. Some of the team had to go on to the next round and represent the Town.
Emma Cassell, Jade Walton and Jayson Blackburn have now reached the County Team and will travel with the squad to the next round at Northumberland; this is a massive achievement for all 3 runners. I can’t wait to see them with their County jumper on.
Emma Cassell came 1st in the town and 2nd in the Teesside competition; this was a great achievement as she had to compete against athletes 1 year above her.
Manor College staff and pupils would like to wish them all the very best in representing the County on Saturday 5th February 2011.
Basketball
U16 Girls Basketball Team
The girls have represented the school for the last five years and have competed from school level to National standard. Over the years the girls have been town champions and county champions every year at under than 14 and 16 level.

These girls dedicate many hours of training every week and this is why they are as successful as they are. Congratulations to all of the girls, it has been an absolute pleasure coaching you over the last five years.
Biathlon
Emma Cassell travelled to Macclesfield on Sunday 30th January 2011 to represent the North East as the number 1 ranking. Emma had to compete in 1000m run and 100m swim.
At the previous event, her run time was 3mins 14 seconds and on Sunday she beat it with a time of 3 mins 10 seconds, her swimming time from previous event was 1.05.99, she also beat it with 1.05.09.
Emma is now training hard along side her mam to prepare herself for the British National Finals held at Crystal Palace on 27th/28th March. Emma will be accompnied by her family and members of the PE Department.
Emma is a very disciplined young lady with the potential to become a Great British Athlete in the future. Manor College of Technology staff, Governors and pupils would like to wish Emma the very best in the National Finals.
Girls Cricket
North East Champions
The girl’s cricket team have gone from strength to strength over the year and have achieved so much under the guidance of Mr Atkinson who even organised an England international player to come in and coach the girls for 6 weeks.

Netball
County Netball Representatives
Manor has a great reputation in producing brilliant netball players. This is down to the dedication and hard work put in by the players and the fantastic Oaksway Netball Club who we work in partnership with. Seven girls, all at under 14 level have been chosen to train with the county squad over the next year.
Harriot Hampshire is a regular at Oaksway club and has been for many years so I am not surprised she was one of the girls selected. Chloe Hunter is another regular and I can see the improvement in her game already.
The rest of the girls are working hard and I am hoping they are selected for the end of season tournament. Good luck girls.
Rugby
Manor College Rugby 2010/11
Since September 2010 Manor has made great strides in Rugby Union. Manor are currently in the Quarter Final of the Durham County Plate at Under 15 and U16 level.
The U15’s take on High Tunstall on Friday 11th March, Kick Off 3.45pm.
Manor have just short of 100 students who participate in extra curricular Rugby throughout the week and this ranges from U12 to U16’s, this also include girls who are training hard.
Manor’s current U15 team made history in September 2010 by becoming the first team in the school’s history to compete in the Daily Mail Cup where they were unlucky against an experienced MacMillan Academy team.

All our teams are going from strength to strength and this down to the commitment and effort put in by the student after school.
The year 7 team are showing great promise and have a fixture against English Martyrs at Manor on the 16th March after school. The year 7’s have by far the biggest squad out of all the teams in the college and their enthusiasm has been excellent all year.
Manor hope this continues and no doubt over the next few years we can bring some Silverware back to Manor which is a long time overdue.
