Friday 3rd February 2012
Our Connecting Classrooms partnership with 8 schools in the Tamil Nadu region of India is going from strength to strength and we hope that next week it will get a great boost!
Mrs Welsh will represent Manor College during a visit to India where she will meet the pupils and teachers from the partner schools and come up with more ideas for future projects. Keep checking the website over the next week for photo updates from India!

Sunday 5th February
Greetings from Dubai!
The journey from Newcastle to Dubai has been great so far and although it is 2am here the temperature is 18c!
Next stop Chennai!
Monday 6th February
This afternoon we have been lucky enough to meet teachers from all our partner schools at the British Council offices in Chennai. We spent two delightful hours chatting to them and sharing ideas for our visit.
We then had a lovely snack (vegetable cutlets which tasted a bit like a spicy vegetarian fritter) and then we had a presentation from Mrs Latha and Rajendran from the State Government about the different education system in Tamil Nadu. There are over 55,000 schools in Tamil Nadu! Amazing!
We are looking forward to meeting some of the children at two schools tomorrow - keep logging on to the Manor College website to find out more!
Tuesday 7th February - School Visits
Today we have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to us by pupils and teachers of two schools, a Government High School and PUMS Nallambakkam. We were treated like royalty.
The children were so excited to meet people from England but the honour was really for us to meet these amazing people.
Wednesday 8th February
Today we have enjoyed a visit to PSPB - a private school in Chennai which had nearly 4000 pupils altogether!
During the day we enjoyed lesson observations, a tour and a cultural show with lots of examples of amazing singing and dancing. Another great day and we are really enjoying our time in India!
Thursday 9th February
Today we visited another 2 of our partner schools and were treated to marvellous cultural displays in both, with singing, dancing and acting.
One of the schools was out in the hills around Chennai, and if it wasn't for the sun beaming down, you could almost believe you were in Scotland!
Friday 10th Feb
Today we have had a really busy day visiting three more of our partner schools. We were again greeted in the most warm and generous way by colleagues from P.U.M.S. Guduvancheri, P.U.M.S. Asthinapuram 17 and P.U.M.S. Higher Elementary School in Kalvoy.
We were treated to displays of singing, dancing, acting and even a magic show today! Amazing.
The week in India has flown and I cannot believe that we are leaving tomorrow night. If you are interested in the India project, speak to me at school and you could start a project with schools here.
Tata (that's Tamil for bye!)
Mrs Welsh
