Partnership

College Partnership

The Governing Bodies of High Tunstall College of Science, Manor College of Technology and Hartlepool Sixth Form College are forming a Partnership with Heerema, EDF (formerly British Energy), Hart Biologicals Ltd, The Tees Valley Engineering Partnership, The University of Sunderland and the University of Teesside.

The aim of the Partnership is to:

  • Develop a curriculum which will meet the needs of all learners.

  • Raise achievement.

  • Make our young people appealing to employers.

We are determined to develop pathways for our learners by engaging more formally with Universities, Colleges and employers and we are very much aware of the need to address skill shortages within the local economy.

Together we are going to develop an appreciation of the importance of wealth creation, enterprise, social responsibility, sustainability and respect for the environment. We are going to collaborate so that we increase the percentage of learners progressing on to Degree Courses.

One of the most exciting proposals is the development of links with International Partners and we shall be promoting foreign languages (Italian, French, German, Spanish, Latin and Mandarin) and developing cultural, educational and economic exchanges.

The partnership will build upon the exceptional links already developed between Hartlepool Sixth Form College and three Chinese Educational Institutions which has resulted in unprecedented numbers of Chinese students studying at the Sixth Form.

The partnership has enormous strengths in creative and performing arts and sport and will provide world class opportunities and facilities for our learners. Manor College and High Tunstall are recognised as centres of excellence for football, gymnastics, rugby, netball, cricket and athletics and Hartlepool Sixth Form College has an established and hugely successful Rugby Academy in partnership with the RFU and Newcastle Falcons.

We are going to develop the existing excellence in Music, Drama and Dance and all of our learners will have access to the sixth form colleges new theatre which is only equalled in the north east by the Sage in Gateshead.

We shall share teaching expertise, resources and facilities and celebrate achievement together.

For the first time, the Partnership will make it possible for Post 16, Higher Education and major employers to have a critical input into the design of the 11-18 Curriculum. We believe that the Partnershipt, as constituted, has the ability to transform learning and employment opportunities for Hartlepool children.

Its principal role is to promote collaboration and to unlock the rich reserves of talent and creativity which exists within the constituent partner organisations for the benefit of the learners, the community and the economy.

The Partnership will also build upon the Specialism’s of the two Schools in Science, Technology, Maths and ICT and promote greater participation in these subjects at AS / A level. These are exciting times for our learners.

The Government has been so impressed with our plans that it has awarded a grant of £10,000 to the partnership to develop our proposals. We understand that the Partnership will be the first of its kind in the Tees Valley and will be unique in England.
