College Specialisms

Manor College is a Specialist Technology College with a Second Specialism in Raising Achievement.

Technology Colleges are charged with using their specialist status to raise standards of achievement and the quality of learning in Design and Technology, Science and Mathematics for all their students across the ability range. Specialist departments actively work to raise whole school achievement and trial new and innovative resources and teaching methods.

Our Specialist status gives us additional funding, allowing the College the flexibility to purchase additional resources and to employ high quality specialist staff to teach in those areas and to contribute to work in our partner schools, as well as become involved in various curriculum opportunities.

Being a Specialist Technology College contributes to our unique ethos through:

  • An emphasis on raising standards particularly in the Specialist subjects. The specialist funding supports achievement and success for numerous targeted groups of students, for example through successful holiday revision and residentials and the provision of revision resources.

  • Teaching and curriculum innovation, for example supporting the introduction of a variety e resources and the purchase of hardware.

  • We are also proud of our contributions to community learning. Specialist status also facilitates our exceptional primary partner scheme and master class provision. We also run “Silver Surfers” ICT classes weekly.

Our second specialism was achieved after an outstanding OFSTED inspection and excellent examination results. The College supports several schools (locally and Nationally) and colleagues frequently invited to present at SSAT events and Conferences.

The additional funding the second specialism attracts has been disseminated across the College, providing enrichment and revision opportunities for many learners, as well as providing support of other schools.
