Student Voice for BSF

Manor pupils were then asked to present their findings to the Hartlepool Partnership in September 2008. For this project they took the Day in the Life of a student and a teacher which had been written for the Transformation of Learning project. These were rewritten into a script to allow the students to act out the day of a learner and teacher in the year 2013 when the new building is opened. The students presented to Adrienne Simcock, Director of Children’s Services, the Mayor of Hartlepool, and many others. They showed how technology will be used within lessons and how education may alter in the near future.

After this event the script was altered again to create a film script and locations were identified to show how a new building may look. Mark Lutz from Hartlepool City Learning Centre provided the expertise of filming and editing the material and four of the original Sorrell students worked alongside staff and younger pupils to create the DVD in July 2009.

The filming took place over the period of two weeks and took the students to the newly refurbished College of FE, St Hild’s Church of England Secondary School, the Avondale Centre and the e-learning centre at Manor College of Technology. The finished film was presented to the Governor’s and Senior Leadership Team in November 2009 and can be viewed below.

Student Voice plays an incredibly important role in the Transformation of Learning as part of BSF. Learners need to be consulted for their opinions as part of the process and their ideas and knowledge of technology and learning styles will provide invaluable to how Manor College of Technology moves forward.
