Manor College of Technology Chinese Festival
9th to Friday 12th February
Manor College is about to launch it’s first ‘International Festival’ running from Tuesday 9th to Friday 12th February.
This year’s event has a Chinese theme and is designed to support the work of the Languages department who have recently started to offer Mandarin courses to students and staff at the college.
All YR7 and YR8 pupils will be able to take part in the festival. Teachers in all subjects have re-designed their lessons so that they can be delivered with a Chinese theme with subjects ranging from The Great Wall Of China in History to designing a tourist guide to China in ICT.
As pupils move from lesson to lesson they will build up a folder of work showing what they have learnt and they will have the opportunity to collect merits for good work that could win them a prize.
As well as lesson time pupils will be exposed to other aspects of Chinese culture at tutor time and after school if they enroll on one of the extra-curricular events such as the spectacular ‘Lantern Festival’ or the Grand Finale Quiz and Firework Display.
Pupils will also have the opportunity to try some Chinese food as the kitchens will be offering Chinese dishes during the week. The event will support the delivery of the ‘International Dimension’ and will open pupil’s eyes to the international opportunities open to them and to make them see that they are part of a wider world.
This years Chinese New Year starts on 14th February and is the year of the tiger.
