A Night of Light

15th April 2010

Manor College of Technology recently held the town’s first outdoor light show on the northern face of the building. The event took place on Thursday 15th April at 8.30pm.

Planning for the light and projection show had taken place over a month and was the brainchild of the Performing Arts Technician and former pupil, Luke Wallace.  After completing other projects including the video projection work for many shows, including We Will Rock You in 2008, Luke decided to try something new.

He mobilised a number of staff and current pupils to create images and soundtracks before the Easter holidays and received help from Hartlepool’s City Learning Centre staff.

Over the Easter holidays the crew took over the north side of the building, setting up eight projectors and computers, PA systems and lights whilst battling against problems like the inconvenient height of the banisters and stairwells!  Many tests took place before the actual evening and the local community must have wondered just what precisely was going on.

The night itself was a complete success.  The images were projected onto eight windows on the building and the timing was close to perfect.

Luke as the designer and producer of the show is hoping that this will prove to the town and other designers alike that you do not need expensive equipment to create a light extravaganza.

A Night of Light

Luke is currently applying for Theatre Lighting Design courses for September and although Manor College of Technology will be sad to lose him, we wish him luck for a future which is obviously bright!
