Sports Day 2010 'The World Cup'
30th June 2010
This Years Sports Day took on a South African Theme when the World Cup came to Manor College of Technology. Year 8 and 9 Tutor Groups were allocated a World Cup Country at random and each group made a fantastic effort to decorate themselves.
The morning’s events took place with the Hurdles, 1500m, Javelin, High Jump and Rounder’s and Cricket Ball throw. These events were very well participated and pupils were winning great points for their Tutor Groups.
Emma Cassell got 8JD off to a flying start in the 1500m and even managed to break the long standing school record in the process. Jason Blackburn, James Hogan, Caitlin Sanders, Ryan Meggs were also amongst the winners that morning achieving maximum points in their respective events.
The Afternoon saw the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m; Long Jump, Shot and Relays take place in Glorious Sunshine. Once again the standard of performance was superb and the atmosphere was amazing with Tutor Groups fanatically cheering their team mates on.
Callum Johnson won a sprint double; Danny Sherry also looked impressive in the sprints. Jayed Walton was another stand out performer in the 800m. The team competition was nip and tuck all the way and the relays proved decisive.
Mr Armstrong as ever was doing a great job on the microphone and was joined by Luke Miller who gave a cameo performance as the scores were being counted. The tension built up as the final scores were given. 8AP were the victors along side 9DH.
The whole day was a credit to all concerned and was a great example of the Manor ethos. Well done everyone!
