Stranton Carol Service 2009
15th December 2009
The annual Carol Service took place at Stranton Church on Tuesday 15th December 2009.
The service followed the format of 9 lessons and carols and was lit by candle light.
The service began with a tenor solo from James Pattison (an ex pupil) singing the first verse of Once in Royal David’s city and the service continued without announcement.
Mr White read the first lesson with other lessons read by the Head Boy and Girl, Year Representatives and finally Mr Watson, the President of the Foundation Governing Body of Manor College.
Music was provided by the Senior and Junior Choir, soloists and musicians from the band.
Mr A White - Headteacher.
"This year’s service was different with more solo performances and a greater emphasis on Mr Warham’s instrumentalists – the mix worked beautifully and the congregation was treated to a very special evening. The Senior Chamber and Junior Chamber Choir performed beautifully and I have never heard the band play better.
Mr Watson delivered the 9th reading and was compelling as always – I love to see the children reading from the pulpit and to see our 86 year old former Lay Preacher and the children reading at the same service is very special.
Many people have paid tribute to the solo performances given by James Pattison Kayleigh Johnson, Shannon Hogg and Hannah Marram – sensational children, each of them cast a spell over the congregation.
As stated at the end of the Service for me the Candlelit Carol Service remains the highlight of the year – this was the 14th Service at Stranton and it will sustain me throughout the Christmas period. "
At the end of the service a cheque for £500 was presented for the Kilimatinde Trust which the school supports each year.
The Performing Arts Department would like to thank Miss Crossan, Mr White and the Senior Prefects for all their help.
