Extra Curricular activities and trips
The pupils have taken part in many different activities starting in Year 7 with a residential to Stainsacre near Whitby. Pupils were able to take part in canoeing, cycling, problem solving activities, orienteering – to name but a few.
A trip to Paris followed in Year 8 where pupils were able to visit Disneyland for a day but also had the experience of visiting the sights of Paris such as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Sacre Coeure. Pupils had the experience of walking down the Champs Elysees and visiting the artists at Montmartre.
Many pupils from the Year group have also taken part in the annual ski trip to the French Alps and to visit the sights of New York. Some were lucky enough to visit Spain on a football week and to watch a Real Madrid game. As a reward, day trips to Flamingoland, Lightwater Valley and Wet ‘n’ Wild have been organised which have proved to be very popular. There have been trips to London and art camps organised for the gifted artist in the Year group.
Sport and Performing Arts are two areas of the curriculum which are very popular with the Year group and the pupils have made a large contribution to the football and basketball teams and have take leading roles in the College productions. Music is extremely important and Year 11 pupils have an important part to play in the College choir and are in huge demand for the different concerts held at the College.
Now the pupils have moved into Year 11 they are the role models for the younger pupils and many have been given the status of prefect which is a much sought after honour at the College. A prefect residential has recently taken place at Carlton Minniott Outdoor Centre near Thirsk. It proved to be an excellent weekend with the prefects displaying a high level of maturity. The pupils took part in team building and problem solving activities and discussed the qualities needed to be a prefect.
They had a beautiful walk in the nearby countryside and ended the weekend with building a raft exercise which the pupils then had to paddle across a lake! Some were built better then others!
It is also a time to think about the future and the pupils were able to experience a taster session of what life is like at Hartlepool 6th Form College and Hartlepool College of Further Education. The pupils will continue to have support as they move through Year 11 to help them decide what route to take once they leave Manor and to help them explore all the options available to them.
Thoughts are now very much focussed on the year ahead and pupils will receive massive support to help them achieve their full potential. A mentoring programme is about to start and pupils’ progress will continue be monitored and help and guidance provided when necessary.
The Year 11 pupils are an exceptionally talented Year group and the whole College wishes them luck and success in the future.
