Year 8 Information
Hello Y8 welcome to your second year here at Manor College of Technology. After a fantastic start to your Manor ‘careers’ we are all very excited and enthusiastic about what this Year holds for you all.
As always we expect very high standards in Attendance, Punctuality, Behaviour, Manners and Uniform. So far these standards have been the foundations that our superb year group have been built upon and we are confident that this will continue. Always remember at Manor we value more than anything the ‘3 C’s’ of Care, Courtesy and Consideration.
Y8 is very important as the skills you acquire this year will go a long way to helping you perform well as you move further through the school. Your subject teachers work incredibly hard to deliver exciting and interesting lessons – in return for this we expect our pupils to attend all lessons suitably equipped and engage yourselves fully in everything going on in the classroom.
For extra learning you can also attend specially provided sessions where you can receive some help with your homework. Homework will be completed both at home and in College. Students are encouraged to work after school and to utilise the facilities available. Staff are available to help students, during the following sessions:
8am – 8.45am in the E Learning Centre
Lunchtime in Room 28
3.15pm – 4pm in the LRC
Parents will receive 3 reports throughout the year that will enable them to monitor their children’s progress. Guidance Day and Parents Evenings will provide parents with the opportunity to meet with staff and discuss performance and strategies to ensure further improvement.
We really appreciate the support we receive from parents and really hope this can continue. The partnership between home and school is absolutely vital in each child’s development as both a student and a person and the results that we have achieved together so far are very encouraging.
Y8 is hard work however we want to make the year as enjoyable as possible for you all, to enable this many trips and events will take place throughout the year. The main trip for Y8 is the Paris Trip that involves a visit to Euro Disney! Other trips such as Wet and Wild, Ice Skating, Flamingo Land and the Cinema trip will also be taking place and are fun events to look forward to and will make all of the hard work in the classroom seem worthwhile.
We are very proud of our superb Year Group and hope that you all continue to be fantastic ambassadors for Manor College. Always remember that Y8 are a team and you are part of this team – how each of you behaves and performs in school reflects on the whole year group. Ensure that your contribution to our team is always a positive one. Make each day count and take every opportunity that comes you way.
Thanks
Mr Gordon and Miss Marley
